A Little Motivation

Lately I've been thinking and praying about what "reward" I can give myself to stay within my Weight Watcher points each week.  I realized that being healthy is my greatest personal reward, but that's a tough one to measure on a weekly basis.  Material rewards (e.g. a new outfit) are hard to distinguish from things I would have bought anyway.

Listening to a story on the radio the other day caused me to think about all the children in the world who do not have enough to eat.  Some of these kids literally eat mud pies because they are so hungry.  From personal experience, it was absolutely heart-breaking to witness poverty firsthand both in Haiti and Nicaragua.  In fact, it struck me in Petco one day that our dogs eat better than most of the world's people.  Something seems very wrong with this picture.

Then it hit me like a ton of bricks - why don't I set aside $1 every day that I stay within my points, and at the end of each month donate that money to an organization that helps feed children?
Talk about motivation -knowing that what I do not eat (nor need by any stretch) is actually going to help someone who needs it to survive!

Why am I posting this?  Accountability.  I need to let people know what I am doing so they can ask me the hard question:  "Are you feeding hungry children or are you over-feeding yourself?"

What an awesome idea! I think you will be motivated by this focus in a big way. Not only will you help feed hungry people, but keep your eyes on Jesus instead of turning your focus to yourself. Brilliant! You have inspired me once again, my dear friend. Thanks for sharing :)
